The Flyin H Ranch: Home, Where Our Kids Are Free to Be

There is a special kind of magic in calling a ranch home. Here at the Flyin H Ranch, we’re not just raising livestock; we’re raising kids in an environment that celebrates freedom, adventure, and responsibility. For us, there is no better place to nurture their growth and imagination than right here, surrounded by open skies, animals, and the simplicity of country life.
Every day, our children have the freedom to explore. It’s nothing for them to kick off their shoes and dash outside to play. They jump in mud puddles without hesitation, climb trees and hay bales, and let their laughter echo across the pastures. Here, they are free to get dirty and embrace the joys of childhood—untethered by screens and schedules.
Animals are at the heart of our ranch, and our kids learn invaluable lessons from them. They understand the difference between pets and the animals we raise to sell or eat, but there is one universal truth we teach: every animal deserves respect, care, and kindness. Whether it’s feeding the chickens, bottle-feeding a calf, or giving a piglet a gentle scratch behind the ears, our kids know that caring for animals means providing them with a good life. We believe our stock animals should live their best lives, with only one bad day—and that philosophy guides our work.
Life on the ranch also means mastering skills that many adults might find intimidating. Our children are learning to drive tractors and operate heavy equipment with confidence and care. They brave the chicken coop to collect eggs and understand the intricacies of pond management. From maintaining a healthy ecosystem in our waters to ensuring our gardens flourish, they are immersed in the cycles of life and growth.
The garden is another playground for them. They love to dig in the dirt, marvel at the sprouting plants, and pick fresh vegetables. There’s something profoundly grounding about pulling a carrot from the earth or harvesting a ripe tomato straight from the vine. It connects them to their food in a way that’s increasingly rare in today’s world.
The Flyin H Ranch isn’t just a place to live; it’s also an event center and vacation cabin rental. Our kids interact with people from all over the world, all while learning the family business. They know the importance of cleaning cabins and presenting the ranch in its best light. These experiences not only teach them the value of hard work but also the importance of hospitality and creating memorable experiences for our guests.
With the event venue on the ranch, our kids also attend and help host parties, weddings, and celebrations. Even though we are in rural East Texas, our children are exposed to a variety of cultures through the different traditions celebrated at these events. From dancing horses and piñatas to customs of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Church of England, our kids are learning in a safe environment that differences in culture are something to celebrate, not fear or reject.
Grandma and Grandpa also live on the ranch, and we cannot say enough about their positive influence on our children. Their wisdom, patience, and love enrich our kids’ lives in countless ways, providing guidance and a deep connection to family traditions.
The Flyin H Ranch is also a love story. This is the place where Scott and I fell in love, and the ranch itself is a living, breathing testament to that bond. When Scott married me, he invested himself fully into this life, and it is no exaggeration to say we couldn’t run this place without him. As a wife, I couldn’t imagine life without him. His dedication, hard work, and love for our family and the ranch are the glue that holds it all together.
This life teaches our children resilience, responsibility, and gratitude. They see the hard work it takes to keep a ranch running, but they also experience the joy that comes from a job well done. They’re learning to care for the next generation’s food supply, understanding the balance of nature, and growing into thoughtful stewards of the land. But even if they don't, it has taught them to give their best in all they do. We want them to know we support them no matter what their dreams and goals are; be it join the military, operate a fortune 500 company or be a lead guitarist in a rock band. Meaning we support them even if ranching is not their passion, calling or chosen career field.
The Flyin H Ranch isn’t just a place to live; it’s a place where our children are free to truly live. It’s a good life—a beautiful, messy, hands-in-the-dirt kind of life—and there’s no better home for our family. This is a very special way of life, and it’s one that we are happy to share with the guests and clients of the ranch. Here, they’re not just kids; they’re future caretakers of this land and all it provides. And for that, we are endlessly grateful. Gotta go, dinner is at 8 and I am 10 min late.
