It Takes a Village—For Moms Too!

We Need Our Village Too

We’ve all heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child.” And while that is absolutely true, I think we sometimes forget that we, as moms, need our village just as much as our kids do.

Motherhood is beautiful, rewarding, and full of heart-bursting moments. But it’s also exhausting, overwhelming, and, at times, lonely. Whether we’re juggling the demands of ranch life, managing a home, working full-time, or all of the above, we can’t do it all alone. And we’re not supposed to.

The Power of the Village

A village isn’t just about having extra hands to help with the kids. It’s about emotional support, wisdom from those who’ve walked this road before, and friendships that remind us we’re not alone in the trenches of motherhood. It’s the friend who brings over a coffee when you’ve been up all night with a sick baby. It’s the mom at 4-H who swaps stories about trying to get the kids to finish their record books. It’s the neighbor who watches your little ones so you can have an hour of quiet.

We need our village for advice, for laughs, for prayers, and for those days when we feel like we’re running on empty. Sometimes, we just need someone to remind us that we’re doing a good job.

Building Your Village

Finding and nurturing your village isn’t always easy, especially if you’re in a rural area where the nearest neighbor is miles away. But it’s worth the effort.

  • Lean on Family and Friends – If you’re fortunate to have family nearby, embrace their help. If not, find friends who feel like family.

  • Get Involved – Whether it’s through 4-H, church, a homeschool group, or a local mom’s club, getting involved in your community is a great way to meet like-minded moms.

  • Be Vulnerable – It’s okay to ask for help. So many of us are struggling silently, afraid to admit we don’t have it all together. Let’s normalize supporting each other without judgment.

  • Be the Village Too – A village is a two-way street. Be there for your fellow moms in the ways you hope they’ll be there for you.

The Strength of Friendships

I’m incredibly grateful for the friends who make up my village. My friend Tammie has always dreamed of opening her very own art studio and gallery. A few months ago, she took the leap and did it. She opened her own business, and I am so proud of her. Seeing her chase her dreams has been inspiring, and I do everything I can to support her, whether it’s helping with events or just being a listening ear when she needs encouragement.

Or my friend Joni, who is a vet tech and is married to our local vet. Together they run the clinic, providing care and compassion to our animals. Joni is always there when I need advice on ranch animals or just someone to talk to after a long day. Our friendship is built on mutual support, and I’m so grateful to have her in my life.

You’re Not Alone

If you’re feeling burnt out or isolated, I want you to hear this: You are not alone. There is strength in leaning on others. There is joy in sharing the load. And there is beauty in motherhood when we do it together.

Let’s build our village, love each other well, and remind one another that we’re in this together. Because just like our kids need us—we need each other too.
