The Soundtrack of Ranch Life: How Music Keeps Us Moving
There’s something about music that makes life richer, fuller, and more enjoyable. Whether it’s the rhythm that keeps our boots moving in the barn or the melody that lulls the kids to sleep after a long day, music is woven into the fabric of ranch life. For this Ag Mom, music is more than just background noise—it’s part of the lifestyle.
Morning Jams and Feeding Time
The day starts early on the ranch, and nothing sets the mood like a good playlist. Whether it’s country classics, modern folk, or a little red dirt, there’s something about hearing George Strait or Lainey Wilson playing while sipping that first cup of coffee. The animals may not care about the playlist, but a little music sure makes morning chores more enjoyable.
Road Trips and Hauling Cattle
When it’s time to haul cattle or take a long drive into town, road trip music is a must. There’s nothing like belting out 90s country or classic rock with the kids in the backseat. Singing along to Garth Brooks, The Chicks, or some good old-fashioned rock and roll makes those long stretches of highway fly by.
Dance Parties in the Kitchen
After a long day outside, sometimes the best way to shake off the dust is a kitchen dance party. Whether it’s two-stepping to Texas country, having a full-on singalong to Disney tunes with the kids, or turning up some rock anthems, music helps turn everyday moments into something special.
The Power of a Good Slow Song
Music isn’t always about keeping up the energy. Sometimes, it’s about winding down. Sitting on the porch at sunset with a glass of wine while Chris Stapleton or Willie Nelson plays in the background? That’s the kind of peaceful moment every ranch mom deserves.
Passing Down the Love of Music
Just like ranching, a love for music is something that gets passed down. Teaching the kids about the classics—Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Patsy Cline—or introducing them to the songs that shaped my own childhood is a special kind of legacy. And when they start picking out their own favorites, it’s a reminder that music connects generations just like ranch life does.
The Soundtrack of Ranch Life
Every family has its own soundtrack, and ours is a mix of country, rock, folk, and whatever else fits the moment. Whether we’re working, playing, or just spending time together, music makes everything a little better.
